There are over 10,000 B&B, guest house and hotel rooms in Blackpool.
“Imagine how many sausages are cooked every morning in Blackpool?” poses a B&B owner.
But with this much competition, plus the Lancashire town reflecting the impact of austerity across the UK, many of the grills have been turned off – along with local shops and cafe’s too. Behind the facade of the Golden Mile, more grills have been permanently pulled down on local shops, with a report revealing how locals are favouring larger, out-of-town retailing.
I entered a selection to VVisions’ call out for submissions on ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’, which to me sums up the personal strife behind each white-washed, boarded-up or empty window.
