There are over 10,000 B&B, guest house and hotel rooms in Blackpool, all jostling for a portion of the £1496 million generated by visitors and tourists to the seaside town each year.

“Imagine how many sausages are cooked every morning in Blackpool?” poses a B&B owner.

But with this much competition, plus the Lancashire town reflecting the impact of austerity across the UK, many of the grills have been turned off.

Behind the facade of the Golden Mile, more grills have been permanently pulled down on local shops, with a report revealing how locals are favouring larger, out-of-town retailing.
